<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the saving of power by suppressing power to be consumed in a printer without lowering a printing speed by each data input means. <P>SOLUTION: This printer comprises an extension slot, a detachable extension board, a means for detecting the extension board, an extension slot controller for controlling the extension slot, an extension board controller for controlling the extension board, an image processing circuit, a clock generation/variation circuit, and a means for storing a detection code corresponding to a communication speed of a host I/F or a reading speed of an HDD.
