PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly apply a processing liquid to a wiper regardless of an environmental change, etc., and to wipe an ejection opening formation face in a good state at all times. SOLUTION: The processing liquid used for the wiping action of the wipers 10A and 10B is held in a processing liquid holding part 19. When the wipers 10A and 10B come in touch with the processing liquid holding part 19, the processing liquid is transferred to the wipers 10A and 10B. The viscosity of the processing liquid increases in a low-temperature environment or low-humidity environment, etc. The processing liquid is not fully transferred to the wipers 10A and 10B in a viscosity-increased state. Therefore, under an environment in which the processing liquid is increased in viscosity, the wipers 10A and 10B with ink adhered thereto are brought in contact with the processing liquid holding part 19, thereby supplying the ink to the processing liquid holding part 19. Thus the viscosity of the processing liquid near a contact part between the processing liquid holding part 19 and the wipers 10A and 10B is decreased, and the processing liquid is fully transferred to the wipers 10A and 10B.
