PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent effective for VOC (volatile organic compound), particularly for styrene. SOLUTION: This adsorbent 1 is obtained by holding a peroxide 4 in zeolite 2 having adsorbing activity. Consequently, ordinary VOC is removed by the adsorption of zeolite 2 and styrene is adsorbed on zeolite and then polymerized since the held peroxide 4 functions as an initiator when styrene is polymerized. The capacity of this adsorbent for adsorbing styrene is therefore made larger than that of another adsorbent in which the peroxide 4 is not held, so that this adsorbent can be made more useful since styrene is not released from this adsorbent.
