PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating landfill, by which the content of organic matter contained in treated landfill can be reduced effectively without increasing treatment cost so much even when a large quantity of organic matter is contained in landfill. SOLUTION: This method for treating the landfill contaminated with a halogenated organic compound comprises a reducing/heating step of heating the landfill in a reducing atmosphere and a burning step of burning organic matter in the landfill treated at the reducing/heating step.
