PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an artificial leather, comprising producing a uniform fiber laminate interlacement product not causing bends, wrinkles and basis weigh irregularity and then using the fiber laminate interlacement product to produce the artificial leather, by which the artificial leather having excellent shape stability enabling the control of longitudinal elongation and the like in the production process and giving a good hand not hardened. SOLUTION: This method for producing the artificial leather comprising a fiber interlacement product and a polymer elastomer imparted into the fiber interlacement product is characterized by sequentially performing the following processes (1) to (4). (1) A process for laminating a staple fiber web to a woven or knitted fabric capable of being substantially extracted away with water, and then subjecting the laminated product to an integrally interlacing treatment to produce the fiber laminated interlacement product, (2) a process for thermally shrinking the fiber laminated interlacement product, (3) a process for imparting a polymer elastomer into the fiber laminated interlacement product, and (4) a process for extracting the woven or knitted fabric with water.
