PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new starch paste having a low gelatinization degree and a low molecular weight and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The starch paste has <50% gelatinization degree of starch, 20,000-50,000 Dalton weight-average molecular weight and an elution pattern exhibiting a peak at about 100 average polymerization degree of glucose in gel filtration chromatography of isoamylase digestion product and a gentle shoulder from about 50 to about 10 average polymerization degree of glucose.
