<p>In a filtration device (1) comprising a container (2) with an inlet containing at least one hollow spindle (8) on which axially oriented multilayer filter plates (11) (preferably internally hollow membrane plates) are mounted: (a) the container has multiple plate-carrying spindles, such that the plates on adjacent spindles do not overlap; (b) the driven spindles are rotatable at variable speed relative to the container, such that local centrifugal fields are created around the spindles; and (c) an upwardly directed centrifugal flow is obtained in the container. An independent claim is included for operating the device, involving forming an directed centrifugal flow in the container and local centrifugal fields in the regions of the individual spindles and their plates, specifically with the two centrifugal fields coordinated for a time to give a pressure within the membrane disks such that material to be separated flows into the disks when the disks rotate through the radially outer regions of the container and part of the liquid flows back into the container when the disks rotate through the radially inner regions of the container.</p> |
