PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of color reproduction of a particular color region so that a special color can appear to be the same texture as that of a solid image with a particular color ink in printing, in converting image data with a particular color into image data without a particular color. SOLUTION: A particular color determining unit 31 determines a particular color area where a particular color is used and outputs a color space control signal indicating whether or not it is the particular color area. For CMYK in the input image data, a CMYK color conversion unit 32 applies color conversion, and for the particular color, a particular color conversion unit 33 converts it into CMYK color signals, and then, the converted colors are delivered to a screen processing unit 34. In the unit 34, an area other than the particular color area is processed using a high-gradation screen according to a color space control signal, and the particular color area is processed using a screen having higher definition than a screen used for the other areas.
