PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive element which can stably maintain a sufficient output characteristic even under higher temperature environment while it corresponds to high recording density. SOLUTION: The element is provided with a fixed operation layer 32 which consists of IrMn, an MR film 14 having an outer pinned layer 331 where a magnetization direction is fixed in a +Y direction and an inner pinned layer 333 where the magnetization direction is fixed to a -Y direction, a pair of conductive lead layers 16, and a constant current circuit 50 making sense current Is flow to the +Y direction so that a current magnetic field toward the -Y direction is generated inside the inner pinned layer 333. A condition expression (1):0.6 mA≤(Ms2×T2-Ms1×T1)≤1.5 mA is constituted to be satisfied. Thus, the magnetization directions J331 and J333 are stabilized, the stable output characteristic can be obtained even under high temperature environment, and the element can correspond to high recording density.
