PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which enables a stable operation of a lens for a longer period while allowing the relative large displacement of the lens by optimizing a structure with respect to the status frequency of an actuator under the actual operation. SOLUTION: A drive mechanism for displacing a displaceable mobile lens 34 has a shape memory element 41 thermally displaceable as a drive source and the displaceable range of the mobile lens 34 is restricted between the first and second positions. The mobile lens 34 is displaced to the first position with the shape memory element 41 heated by being given a prescribed heating value, and to the second position with the non-heating of the shape memory element 41. In the normal observation, the displacement time of the mobile lens 34 in the first position is longer than that in the second position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
