PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine for washing clothes with normal stain without using any detergent. SOLUTION: Softened alkaline water provided by electrolyzing water in an electrolytic cell 14 after exchanging hardness ingredients such as calcium ions and magnesium ions contained in water to sodium ions by a demineralizing means 10 is supplied to a washing tub 2 for washing. As such washing water contains no calcium ions or magnesium ion the washing capability is not reduced and the clothes with normal stains can be washed without using any detergent.
