<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monolithic refractory, which is excellent in high slag-penetration-resistance, high corrosion-resistance, and volume stability as a monolithic refractory that is used as a lining refractory of a tilting trough, a ladle for steel making, an RH device, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The monolithic refractory is composed of fine powder having a particle diameter of <0.75 mm and aggregate having a particle diameter of 0.75-10 mm, and contains Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and MgO as main components. The fine powder contains periclase-spinel particles, whose particle diameters are <0.75 mm and whose chemical composition comprises 40-80 mass% MgO and the balance Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>.
