PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein visibility of a rotary reel disposed in the rear of a liquid crystal display panel can be enhanced. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with the transmission type liquid crystal display panel 2 disposed in front of the rotary reel 110 freely rotatably disposed and provided with an effective display part wherein a plurality of display elements are disposed and a surface light source device 15 disposed between the liquid crystal display panel 2 and the rotary reel 110 and illuminating the liquid crystal display panel 2 from its rear surface side. The surface light source device 15 has a light source part 20 and an aperture part 21A opposed to the rotary reel 110 and is provided with a light guide body 21 emitting radiated light radiated from the light source part 20 to the liquid crystal display panel 2 and to the rotary reel 110 and no member having light shielding properties intervenes between the light guide body 21 and the rotary reel 110.
