<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide an optical amplifier provided with a monitoring function that can highly accurately detect noise light power, signal light power, etc., generated when signal light is amplified with a simple optical circuit constitution. <P>SOLUTION: The optical amplifier is provided with an optical amplifier circuit 1 which amplifies signal light, and a light reflecting medium 2 which is arranged on an optical fiber F connected to the optical amplifier circuit 1 and can radiate the noise light existing in a prescribed wavelength region on the outside of a signal band of the noise light L<SB>N</SB>generated by the optical amplifier circuit 1 to the outside of the core of the optical fiber F. The amplifier is also provided with a light receiver 3 which detects the noise light power by receiving noise light L<SB>R</SB>reflected by the light reflecting medium 2 and radiated to the outside of the core of the optical fiber F and an arithmetic circuit 4 which calculates the total power of the noise light L<SB>N</SB>generated by the optical amplifier circuit 1 based on the detected result of the light receiver 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
