PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sulfur-based extreme pressure additive used for lubricating oil and fuel oil, having an excellent load resisting performance and abrasion resistance, and in addition a low corrosive property to non-ferrous metals, and a lubricating oil composition and fuel oil composition containing the same. SOLUTION: This additive for the lubricating oil and fuel oil consists mainly of a disulfide compound expressed by general formula (I): R<SP>1</SP>OOC-CR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>-CR<SP>5</SP>(COOR<SP>2</SP>)-S-S-CR<SP>10</SP>(COOR<SP>7</SP>)-CR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP>-COOR<SP>6</SP>[wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>are each independently a 1-30C hydrocarbyl group which may contain O, S or N; and R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>to R<SP>10</SP>are each independently H or a 1-5C hydrocarbyl group] and the lubricating oil composition and fuel oil composition containing the same are provided.
