PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital information recording medium capable of surely preventing illegal copy although the information can be reproduced using an ordinary reproducing apparatus without the need for a special reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: The recording medium includes digital data recorded on a recording surface of a disk-like substrate, and is provided with an unreadable area 7 to disable reading the data in at least one program file 1. The program file 1 includes recording areas 3-1, 3-2, ... where the digital data are recorded, and chapter areas 5-1, 5-2, ... where digital data for index search of the recording areas 3-1, 3-2, ... are recorded, and the unreadable area 7 is provided with a pit of a long length Le enough to disable reading the data.
