Apparatus (3) for removing debris from the path of a moving fibrous sheet (2) in a sheet production machine comprises at least two guide plates (3.1, 3.2) extending across the width of the machine, together forming a sliding path for the debris and directing debris from a torn sheet into a receiver below the path of the sheet. The upper plate (3.1) is telescopically displaceable relative and parallel to lower plate (3.2), and the plates are tiltable about a horizontal axis (3.4) transverse to the direction of motion of the sheet. An independent claim is included for a variant of the apparatus, in which the two guide plates are replaced by a single guide plate supported from underneath by a carrier device and movable up and down, the apparatus being tiltable about a horizontal axis transverse to the direction of motion of the sheet.
