The image processing system sub divides an image block [Px] into a main block [Ax] using a raster pattern [R1] and a shadowing process to identify a motion vector [Vax]. A further block [Bx] is defined using a displaced raster pattern [R2] to give a second vector [Vbx].A final vector [Vaxbx] is obtained for the over lap region.
