<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly precisely correct color shift, even in a color copying tandem machine in which a plurality of image writing units having multi-beams are arranged. <P>SOLUTION: The color image forming device is equipped with image writing units 3Y, 3M, 3C, 3K which are involved in generating two laser beams, have a photoreceptor drum for each color and two laser light sources and form a color image on the photoreceptor drum based on a color shift correction mode or a regular image forming mode, and with control units 15Y, 15M, 15C, 15K for controlling the input/output of the units 3Y, 3M, 3C, 3K. These control units are used to control the image writing unit 3Y so that, for example, a laser light source 31Y1 wherein color shift correction image data is written on lines of an odd number in executing the color shift correction mode, and a laser light source 31Y2 wherein an image data for color imaging is written on the lines of the odd number in executing the regular image forming mode, are matched with each other.
