<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an appropriate target in accordance with a running state of a vehicle when adjusting the capacity between cells by raising the voltage of a battery pack. <P>SOLUTION: A capacity adjusting device determines whether a vehicle is idling or running, and sets the target charging voltage Vidle a little higher than a high-pass operating voltage as a reference voltage for carrying out the capacity adjustment when the vehicle is idling. When it determines that the vehicle is running, on the other hand, the device sets the target charging voltage at Vrun higher than the Vidle.
