<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane double volute type fluorescent lamp where an arc tube hardly breaks in mounting or transportation. <P>SOLUTION: The fluorescent lamp has the arc tube and a holder. The arc tube includes a pair of electrodes respectively at both tube ends, and forms, between the pair of electrodes, a discharge path which turns in a double spiral substantially on one plane about the tube center.
