PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly productive VDF-based fluoroelastomer exhibiting improved mechanical and compression set properties in an extensive temperature range, especially at low temperatures. SOLUTION: The VDF-based curable fluoroelastomer is produced by isolating a polymer by freeze at the end of polymerization and subsequent thawing, washing the isolated polymer twice with deionized water, and drying the washed polymer to a constant weight in a stove and is characterized by having a glass transition temperature lower than -35°C and having a terminal -COF group content equal to or lower than the sensitivity limit as measured by FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy.
