PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique to assign subcarriers to a coded OFMA system using a fixed number of subcarriers to be assigned per sub-channel. SOLUTION: Subcarriers in a multi-user communication system are assigned to sub-channels using a quality measuring value for each sub-channel. First subcarriers are assigned to respective sub-channels and quality metric is measured. According to the quality measuring value for each sub-channel, subsequent subcarriers are assigned. A sub-channel having the lowest quality measuring value accepts the first assignment, and a sub-channel having the highest value accepts the last assignment. Subsequent assignments are repeated, after sub-channel quality measuring values are reclassified, until all of these subcarriers are assigned. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
