PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron gun for a cathode-ray tube capable of reducing a spot diameter of an electron beam when the electron beam is in a high current area, and restraining moire when the electron beam is in a low current area, and to provide a color cathode-ray tube equipped with the same. SOLUTION: In case the current of the electron beam is in a low current area, the maximum convergence action acting on an outermost part of the electron beam in a vertical direction at the neighboring area of a third electrode 14 side of an electron beam passing hole 15 is weaker than that acting on an outermost part of the electron beam in a horizontal direction; and in case the current of the electron beam is in a high current area, the maximum convergence action acting on an outermost part of the electron beam in a horizontal direction and that acting on an outermost part of the electron beam in a vertical direction are almost the same with each other, in the electron passing hole 17 of a second electrode 13 and between the second electrode 13 and the third electrode 14.
