Methods and systems for controlling a personal area network access device are disclosed herein and comprise receiving at least one Bluetooth(R) event by a Bluetooth(R) device. A line speed used by the Bluetooth(R) device may be controlled based on the received Bluetooth(R) event. The line speed utilized by the Bluetooth(R) device may be dynamically adjusted based on the received Bluetooth(R) event associated with said Bluetooth device. The line speed may be dynamically adjusted utilizing a line speed algorithm. The line speed algorithm may comprise a variable bit rate coding algorithm. Encoded data may be transmitted by the Bluetooth(R) device utilizing the line speed. The encoded data may comprise encoded audio data. The line speed may be controlled based on a current line speed of the Bluetooth(R) device.
