A disk drive device into which an optical disk (2) is detachably installed, comprising a casing (3) having a front panel (18) in which a disk insert/extract hole (19) with a longitudinal length approximately equal to the diameter of the optical disk is formed and an energizing member (70) energizing a plurality of rotating arms (61) and (62) holding the outer periphery of the optical disk in a specified direction according to the carrying position of the optical disk. The device also comprises a disk carrying mechanism (60) carrying the optical disk between a disk insert/extract position and a disk installation position, a disk installation part (41) in which the optical disk is installed, a disk rotatingly driving mechanism (42) for the optical disk, an optical pickup (43) recording and/or reproducing information signals in and from the optical disk, and a pickup feed mechanism (44) feeding the optical pickup. Slidable contact pieces (23) in slidable contact with the outer peripheral face of the optical disk inserted into and extracted from the disk insert/extract hole are fitted to the longitudinal end parts of the disk insert/extract hole to restrict the abrupt movement of the optical disk.
