PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of and an apparatus for processing a planar workpiece which improve workability of the planar workpiece, achieve hardening of the workpiece and suppress degradation in blanking property. SOLUTION: In the working of the planar workpiece W1 using forming dies 10, 20, the planar workpiece is energized by bringing an electrode 41 into contact with the planar workpiece. The internal region which is heated by energization and the peripheral region which is situated on the outside of the internal region are formed and also only the internal region is heated up to hardening temperature. After the internal region is heated to the hardening temperature, the planar workpiece is worked into a prescribed shape with the forming dies, also the internal region is hardened and, after the planar workpiece is worked, the planar workpiece is blanked including at least a part of the peripheral region.
