<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printing device in which versatility of kinds of connectable paper feeding units is increased, and an image memory control method. <P>SOLUTION: The printing device 1 is composed by having an image data processing part and by being connected with a nonvolatile storage device 2 such as an HDD. Image data for one page are processed by dividing them into several strip-shaped regions in the printing device 1. In that processing, it is converted from a page description language to actual image data in the printing device and the image memory control method. One page of the image data is processed by dividing it into several strip-shaped regions (bands) in order to further efficiently use a memory. When the size of the image data (bands) for one page is enormous like a printer capable of executing long printing, there is fear that the memory becomes full (a memory full state) before the completion of evacuation if the image data are evacuated to the HDD with the close of the page like a conventional way. However, the image data are evacuated to the HDD by observing a memory state at the timing of securing the memory in band unit.
