PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional image data compression method of compressing a difference between an original image and compressed data by another compression system that a compression/expansion method becomes complicated although high compression can be expected. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a determination means for determining gradation of data to be compressed on the basis of attribute information; a plurality of compression means for compressing image data with different gradations; a memory for storing data compressed by the compression means; and an expansion means for expanding the data compressed by the compression means, and the gradation of the image data compressed by the compression means is changed with the attribute information attached to the image data.
