PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine injecting fuel in a preferable style when fuel is injected at timing near a compression top dead center. SOLUTION: The cylinder injection type internal combustion engine directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 1 is provided with two fuel injection valves 9i, 9e and two ignition plugs 10i, 10e. One fuel injection valve is arranged to inject fuel toward one ignition plug and another injection plug is arranged to inject fuel toward another ignition plug. Fuel is injected only at timing near compression top dead center when engine demand load is less than a predetermined value, and fuel is injected at timing between an intake top dead center and a vicinity of an intake bottom dead center and at timing near a compression to dead center when engine demand load is larger than the predetermined value.
