PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an apparatus and method for heat-developing a photosensitive element. SOLUTION: This heat developing method includes: a step of liquefying, softening or melting part of a composition layer of a photosensitive element by heating the element to a sufficient temperature; a step of supporting a developing medium by an irrotational surface and bringing the medium into contact with the heated photosensitive element; and a step of causing relative movement of the developing medium and the irrotational surface.
