PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore fail-over between storage systems. SOLUTION: A virtual volume module in a host system provides a view of a virtual volume for an application of user level and an application of system level which operate on the host system. The virtual volume module maps input/output from an application directed to the virtual volume to the first physical volume of a first storage system. The virtual volume module maps the input/output from the applications to the second physical volume of a second storage system, if necessary. The second storage system duplicates the data of the first storage system, and, even if re-mapping is made, the re-mapping is not consequently recognized by the application operating on the host system.
