PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the fluctuation of the outside diameter of a drawn glass pipe. SOLUTION: In the method of drawing the glass pipe 1A by heating and softening the glass pipe 1A in a heating furnace 16, a pipe shape (e.g. outside diameter) of the diameter-reduced part 1C of the glass pipe or the pipe shape after being drawn is measured during working, the internal pressure of the glass pipe 1 is computed based on the deviation between the measured pipe shape and the aimed pipe shape and the pipe shape is controlled by changing the internal pressure of the glass pipe 1 so as to coincide the actual value with the calculated value and gain in the computing of the internal pressure is changed corresponding to the pipe shape.
