<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop the potential application of an organic coloring matter compound in a high-density optical recording medium, and expand the range of selecting the organic coloring matter compound when the high-density optical recording medium is manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The optical recording medium comprises a substrate and a recording layer provided on the substrate by using the organic coloring matter compound, and records information by irradiating the recording layer with writing light to cause the organic coloring matter compound to form pits on the substrate.
