<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a vessel for a discharge lamp etc. improved in consistency of the lamp with other members by controlling motion of pinchers to keep shape and size of a press-sealed part constant when the end of the bulb of the heated vessel is pressed by two pairs of pinchers from four directions to form the rectangular press-sealed part. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing a vessel L1, the end of a glass bulb 1 including an electrode mount 2A inside is heated and pressed to form a flat press-sealed part 1a and 1b with pinchers arranged oppositely. The pinchers consist of a pair of major pinchers 41 and 41 which forms flat planes and a pair of minor pinchers 45 and 45 which forms narrow both side of the flat planes. These major and minor pinchers 41, 41, 45, and 45 move ahead from the same direction to form the press-sealed part, and then the minor pinchers 45 and 45 are removed in the direction crossing the flat plane of the sealed part before the major pinchers 41 and 41 are removed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
