PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polyethylene fiber having a high strength which is difficult to be obtained by a means such as conventional gel-spinning methods, a uniform internal structure of the fiber and less unevenness of the strengths of the filaments constituting the fiber. SOLUTION: This high strength polyethylene fiber is provided by having≤8 nm size of a crystal derived from monoclinic system,≥0.85 and≤1.15 ratio of sizes of an orthorhombic crystal (200) to a crystal derived from a diffractive plane (020),≥(-)4.5 cm<SP>-1</SP>/(cN/dTex) stress Raman shift factor,≥20 cN/dTex mean strength of the filament constituting a multifilament,≥40% holding rate of knot strength,≤25% CV showing the dispersion of a single fiber strength,≥2.5% and≤6.0% breaking elongation,≤10 dTex single fiber fineness and≥145°C melting point of the fiber.
