A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving multiple ACK(ACKnowledgement) and NACK(Negative ACKnowledgement) with a single carrier property in a single carrier frequency division multiple access system are provided to effectively use radio resources assigned to a plurality of ACK and NACK channels by selectively using the ACK and NACK channels with the single carrier property. A method for setting ACKCHs(ACK/NACK CHannels) includes the steps of: judging existence of the ACKCHs with a single carrier property among the ACKCHs mapped in data channels with data(705); selecting one first ACKCH among the ACKCHs according to a predetermined regulation and transmitting or receiving ACK or NACK of the data through the selected first ACKCH in case of non-existence of the ACKCHs with the single carrier property(704,706); and selecting second ACKCHs with the single carrier property and transmitting or receiving the ACK or NACK of the data through the selected second ACKCHs in case of existence of the second ACKCHs with the single carrier property.
