An apparatus and a method of interpolation for de-interlacing are provided to enable the smooth edge area interpolation irrelevant to the magnitude of edge tilt existing in the original image by detecting the edge angle more accurately through acquiring correlation between one window and a diagonal multiple window. An input pixel storage part(51) receives and stores image data. A correlation acquisition part(52) moves window in regard to definite area of upper and lower line image data of the interpolating object pixel among stored image data, and acquires vertical direction correlation and multiple slant direction correlation related to each movement state. An interpolation direction decision part(53) determines interpolation direction of the interpolating object pixel to the direction of window pair having the minimum correlation by analysis of the correlation. The correlation comprises the sum of absolute value of the subtracted value acquired by subtraction of pixel values corresponding between one window of the upper or lower line and each of the multiple windows in another lines.
