Light signalling system, e.g. traffic lights, has at least a signal generator with at least a light diode as a light source and at least a reflector. Each signal generator has a device for determining the dirtiness of the reflector which is based on determination of the intensity of reflected light. An independent claim is made for a traffic control system with at least a signal generator that transmits a condition report (11a-c) for its reflectors to a central traffic computer (10), which then instigates maintenance as required.
