IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSPEND/RESUME FUNCTION AND IDLE MODE FOR PROTECTED MODE MICROPROCESSOR AND HARD DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement suspend/resume function and idle mode for a protected mode microprocessor and a hard disk.

SOLUTION: A computer system comprises a processor operable in normal mode and low power mode, a power source for supplying power to the processor, a power source button startable by manual operation, a means for identifying a selected condition of first condition and second condition as a constitution condition, and a means for responding to a manual operation of the power source button to disable the power source when the constitution condition is the first condition or to put the processor in the low power state when the constitution condition is the second condition.
