PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion shaft with a first shaft and a second shaft expandably fitted to a hollow portion thereof, constructed to prevent the rattling of a fitting portion, in particular. SOLUTION: The expansion shaft comprises the first shaft 1 having the hollow portion and the second shaft 2, the second shaft 2 being expandably fitted to the hollow portion of the first shaft 1. A female serration 11 is formed on the inner peripheral face of the first shaft 1 and a male serration 21 is formed on the outer peripheral face of the second shaft 2 so as to be fitted to the female serration 11 formed on the inner peripheral face of the first shaft 1. In at least one of the female serration 11 of the first shaft 1 and the male serration 21 of the second shaft 2, cutout portions 1a, 2a are formed by cutting valley portions 11b, 21b out of the serrations 11, 21.
