IDENTIFICATION OF SERVO BAND ARRANGED IN HORIZONTAL DIRECTION USING DISTINGUISHING PROPERTY OF SERVO PATTERN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a pattern of a separated servo band have at least one distinguishing property for a pattern of the other separated servo band in a tape having the separated servo band of a pattern arranged in the horizontal direction over the whole tape. SOLUTION: The distinguishing property enables the identification of the separated servo band. For example, a pattern of the separated servo band has the detectable transition of a different azimuth orientation such as inversion in the horizontal direction for the other servo band. In the other method, a variation quantity in the width of a gap of a pattern is given to the other servo band.
