摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light transmission efficiency of an optical element having a photonic crystal structure. SOLUTION: The optical element 10 has a normal medium region 11 composed of a first medium having a first refractive index, a photonic crystal region 12 in which circular holes 15 are two-dimensionally arranged in the first medium and which has an average refractive index composed of a second refractive index, and an intermediate region 13 in which the refractive index gradually varies from the first refractive index to the second refractive index from the normal medium region 11 toward the photonic crystal region 12. In the intermediate region 13, circular holes with projection 16 are cyclicly formed, and the angle of the projections of the circular holes with projection is tilted by 20 degrees with respect to the boundary face 14 between the intermediate region 13 and the photonic crystal region 12. Light is made incident in the direction opposite from the tilting direction of the projections with respect to the normal line of the boundary face 14 and at an angle of 10 degrees with respect to the normal line of the boundary face 14.
