PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for protecting secrecy of an original. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus for temporarily storing image data read by an image reading means via a volatile memory means in a non-volatile memory means, and for outputting the stored image data by an output means via the volatile memory means, and for erasing the image data stored in the non-volatile memory means as necessary is provided with an output control means for making the output means directly output the image data from the volatile memory means when the erasing means is put in a non-operative state.
