A widebody civil airliner has two lines of centre isle overhead baggage bins that rise and fall to provide access. The bins (12) are lowered by rigid arms (24) incorporating a spring (30) dampening mechanism (28) and attached at one end to the bin and pivoting at the other to the aircraft cabin structure (26). The bin-end of the arm (24) slides within a slot (32). During the first part of its descent the arm slides unhindered in the groove. The spring takes effect in the latter part of bin descent.
