TUNER SERVICE AND DTV RECEIVER AS A UPNP DEVICE

A network architecture includes a home network, a broadcast network, a DTV receiver connected to the home network and the broadcast network, and a DTV-related service implemented on the home network and operable to expose functionalities of the DTV receiver to the network. In other aspects, a tuner service exposes characteristics and capabilities of tuners to other devices on a network, and controls operation of the tuners in accordance with control commands received from control points. In yet other aspects, a resource manager service is adapted to manage allocation of resources on the DTV device and keep track of resource allocation status. In still other aspects, a time and stream event service maintains a common time for the network and delivers triggers to the network from a cache of triggers received from a broadcast carousel.
