PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for evaluation of optical components, such as lens units which can realize high detection resolution. SOLUTION: This system for evaluation of optical components is provided with a holding means 6 for containing a frame 10 which can hold both a lens 11 to fixedly be maintained and a lens 9 to be maintained movably, a chart 4, which has a through hole row R0 and a through hole row R1 concentrically arranged with the through hole of this row R0, a light source 1 for irradiating luminous flux on the chart 4, a CCD camera 12 for imaging the luminous flux transmitted through the through hole rows R0, R1, an arithmetic processor 14, and a moving means 5. According to the result imaged by the CCD camera 12, the arithmetic processor 14 obtains the center coordinates of the circle for each luminous flux, to compute center-to-center coordinates dimensions and then travel of the lens 9.
