The bolt cutter has two cutting portions (1,2) formed with holes to which pins (4,5) are mounted, and two double-armed hand levers (8,9) movable between open and cutting positions. The cutting portions swivel such that the distance of the fulcrums of the pins in cutting position are larger than the shortest distance of the cutting lines of the cutting portions from their respective fulcrums. When the hand levers are in open position, the cutting portions are spaced apart from each other. When the hand levers are in cutting position, the cutting portions are arranged parallel to each other.
