PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a tape medium without using a recognition hole pattern that is mechanically detected. SOLUTION: This medium 100 for a tape drive is provided which is provided with a magnetic segment 102 for magnetically storing information and an identification segment 104 wherein the identification segment 104 has a medium identification pattern 108 and a segment identification pattern 110 for detecting the identification segment 104.
