PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device of a front loading system with which successful user-friendliness is obtained by preventing double loading of a disk form recording medium without need of additional operation. SOLUTION: A disk insertion slot 10 and a disk outlet 11 are arranged side-by-side in a front face of a housing 1 and at the same time, a carry-in means equipped with a disk carry-in roller 12 and a driven roller 14 inside the disk insertion slot 10, and a carry-out means equipped with a disk carry-out roller 13 and a driven roller 14 inside the disk outlet 11 are prepared, respectively. When insertion of an optical disk to the disk insertion slot 10 is detected by an insertion sensor 15 in a state where the loading of an optical disk to a disk drive unit 2 is detected by a loading sensor 17, a loaded disk of the disk drive unit 2 is sent out to outside of the housing 1 through the disk outlet 11 by operation of the carry-out means and at the same time, the inserted disk of the disk insertion slot 10 is sent into inside of the housing 1 by operation of carry-in means and loaded in the disk drive unit 2.
